Chicken Lapeta is a unique chicken recipe prepared with marinated chicken with blend of spices. The dish is wrapped in omlette, hence the name chicken lapeta.

Chicken Lapeta Recipe | Chicken Lapeta Dhaba Style

Ingredients(for marination)-

• Chicken- 600 grams
• Ginger Garlic paste- 2 Tbs
• Yogurt- 4 Tbs
• Red chili / Lal Mirch powder 1 tsp
• Tumeric / Haldi- ¼ tsp
• Kashmiri lal mirch powder- 1 tsp
• Cumin Coriander powder / Zeera Dhaniya powder- 2 tsp
• Garam Masala- ¼ tsp
• Chaat Masala- ½ tsp
• Salt / Namak-1 tsp
• Lemon juice- 2 tsp
• Egg- 1
• Oil- 2Tbs
• Coal- 1 small piece

*Marinate the chicken with all the above mentioned ingredients and let it rest for at least 20 min.

Procedure-

1. Heat 2 Tbsp Oil in a pan on medium flame.
2. Add the marinated chicken* to it and cook from both sides for two minutes or till chicken releases water.
3. Cover and cook the chicken for 20 min. Keep flipping the chicken in between as needed.
4. Open the lid when chicken is tender and saute till all the water is well absorbed and chicken gets brown spots as shown in video.
5. Beat an egg and pour it over the chicken, lower the flame and cover the lid for 5 min
6. Switch off the flame and place a burning charcoal in the middle of the pan. Pour ghee or oil on it and cover the pan with coal fumes for next 5 min. This is to give the dish a smokey flavor but this step is totally optional.

Ingredients(for gravy)-

• Onion – 1 medium size chopped
• Tomato – 2 medium size (puree)
• Ginger Garlic-1 Tbs
• Whole Garam Masala- 2 cloves, 2 cardamom, 1 inch cinnamon, 1black cardamom
• Whole Cumin / Zeera-1 tsp
• Red chili / Lal Mirch powder 1 tsp
• Tumeric / Haldi- 1/4 tsp
• Kashmiri lal mirch powder- 1 tsp
• Cumin Coriander powder / Zeera Dhaniya powder- 2 tsp
• Garam Masala- ½ tsp
• Fenugreek leaves / Kasuri methi 1 tsp
• Salt/ Namak 1 tsp
• Fresh Cream / Malai – ½ cup
• Oil- 4 Tbsp

For granishing-
• Green Coriander- 2 tbsp.
• Green Chilli -2
• Egg-3

Procedure-
1. Heat 4 Tbsp Oil in a pan on medium flame.
2. Add whole garam masala, whole cumin and fry everything together for 30 secs.
3. Add 1 medium size onion chopped and fry well for 3-4 minutes or till onion turns light brown.
4. Add 1 tbs ginger garlic paste and saute well for 2 minutes.
5. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, kashmiri chili powder, cumin Coriander powder and Salt. Mix all the spices well.
6. Add the tomato paste and saute well till the everything comes to a boil.
7. Cover the pan and cook for 5 minutes or till the tomatoes are well cooked.
8. Saute the masala till the oil oozes out.
9. Add 1 cup water, ½ cup cream, 1 tsp fenugreek leaves and ½ tsp garam masala and mix everything well.
10. Add the cooked chicken, water to adjust the consistency of the gravy, chopped green chili and chopped coriander leaves.
11. Cover and cook on low flame for 5 mins.

Garnishing-
1. Fry omelet of two eggs and cut into strips with designs in between as shown in video.
2. Dish out the chicken in a pan and cover it with omelet.
3. Sprinkle coriander leaves and serve Hot. Enjoy
