Our Favorite Smoothie Recipe

Smoothies are a great breakfast item, and we sometimes make them for a quick lunch as well. This recipe is our own take on the classic “strawberry banana smoothie,” and it has become our go-to.

A smoothie with only strawberries and bananas would lean heavy on the carbs and natural sugars, but would lack much of the good fats and proteins needed to make it a complete meal. For protein, we add in oats, yogurt and peanut butter. Yogurt is also packed with calcium and gut-healthy bacteria. Flaxseed and chia seeds are rich in fiber and omega-3’s as well as many other essential nutrients. Once blended in, the oats and chia start to expand and help to give the smoothie that perfectly thick texture. This smoothie is a powerhouse of goodness.

1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup rolled oats
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp flax seeds
1 tbsp chia seeds
1/4 cup peanut butter

Blend all ingredients together. If too thick, add a splash more of milk. If too runny, throw in another handful of frozen strawberries.
