It is Kerala banana dessert time… one of the easy banana dessert recipes quick to make for a snack in case of unforeseen guests.
This is one of many traditional Kerala banana recipes – one of the traditional Kerala Iyer Recipes. This ripe banana recipe made using one of the most popular of Kerala banana varieties – called “Nendran”.
Some of you may know that the pith of a banana plant is also edible. But do you know that it is a POWERFUL remedy for KIDNEY STONES? Check out this video on How to say NO to KIDNEY STONES… https://youtu.be/dEWj-UidtC4
From a biology standpoint, rather than call it one of the ripe Nendran banana recipes of Kerala, it would be more appropriate to name it a ripe plantain recipe. This is because, the “Kerala Banana” is biologically classified as a “Plantain”. I have discussed these “banana facts” and the differences between plantains and bananas in the video.
This is one of the few over ripe plantain recipe, that gives you a fantastic opportunity to utilise even overripe bananas, which many of us often throw away (quite unnecessarily, in my opinion)
So… here are the ingredients for this easy banana dessert recipe (you could call them caramelized bananas also). It consists of JUST 4 INGREDIENTS!…
1. Ripe Nendran banana – 5 Nos
2. Jaggery – 1 small cup
3. Ghee (or clarified butter) – 3 Tbsp
4. Elaichi (Cardamom) powder – 1/4 tsp
You could even call it a fried banana dessert recipe, because we are roasting the ripe bananas in ghee initially before boiling it in a jaggery syrup; it is one of the innumerable ripe banana recipes.
While we have touched upon the Kerala banana benefits, we will look in depth at the Kerala Nendran banana health benefits in a later episode.
I would recommend that you should consider use of organic ingredients from the point of view of health and well-being of yourself and your family. If you choose to use organic ingredients, you could consider sourcing it from Bio Basics at the link given below:
