Goan Chicken Cafreal Recipe:

Chicken (Whole Leg) – 2 nos
Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
Salt – ½ tsp

Cafreal Masala:

Coriander Leaves – 2 Cups
Green Chillies – 2 nos
Garlic – 6 Cloves
Ginger – ½ inch
Cloves – 8 nos
Peppercorn – 15 nos
Cinnamon – 2 Inches
Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
Poppy Seeds – ½ tsp
Cashew Nuts – 6 nos
Lemon Juice – 1 tbsp
Salt – ½ tsp

Other Ingredients:

Oil – 4 tbsp
Onion (finely chopped) – ½ Cup
Tomato Ketchup – 2 tbsp
Water – 1 Cup
Salt – ½ tsp

Potato Wedges:

Potato (sliced with skin) – 1 no
Oil – 1 tbsp
Salt – A Pinch

Cooking Instructions:

1. Make slits on the chicken pieces. Marinate it with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside.

2. For the paste, grind all the ingredients into a thick paste, adding water if needed.

3. Mix the paste along with the chicken pieces. Allow it to rest for 15 minutes.

4. Heat oil in a pan. Add the chicken pieces and cook on medium-high heat for 2 minutes on each side. Remove the chicken pieces from the pan.

5. In the same pan, add the onions and saute until translucent. Add the remaining paste along with tomato ketchup and water. Bring the chicken pieces back into the pan.

6. Cover and cook on medium heat for 20 minutes.

7. For the potato wedges, heat a flat pan and add the oil. Add the potato slices on medium heat and sprinkle salt over them.

8. Flip them after they have browned on one side, around 2 minutes. Season with salt again. Cook for a further 2 minutes.

9. Serve the chicken with the potato wedges and slices of lemon.

Cooking Tips:

1. The lemon used in the recipe can also be substituted with vinegar or tamarind pulp.
