After being dumped by her boyfriend of six weeks, Marilyn Spalding goes to the Happy Yummy Chicken restaurant for a plate of fried chicken and never leaves. She soon attracts the attention of the local news, which in turn attracts the attention of Brody McMillin and Matthew Mansfield, two men about to embark on a creative retreat to develop a new musical. Inspired by the report of Marilyn sitting in a 24 hour restaurant, mourning the loss of her relationship over plates of fried chicken and award winning coleslaw, Matthew and Brody write a soulful rock musical about Marilyn. Meanwhile, Marilyn continues to stay at the restaurant eating chicken. She has become a local celebrity, and the restaurant as the business begins to boom. Auditions and rehearsals for the musical parallel Marilyn’s continued stay at the Happy Yummy Chicken, all leading to an unforgettable opening night performance where the worlds of the restaurant and the musical collide.
