When it comes to holiday entertaining, one of my favorite things to setup for my guests is a dessert buffet. I think it’s a wonderful way after everybody has sat down for dinner, to get up and mingle a little bit and let people come aboard and sort of see what flavors they’d like to enjoy. And that idea of flavors is really important. A successful dessert buffet is going to have a variety of flavors and textures. We can’t do all chocolate because what about the person who can’t have chocolate, the same way you can’t do all fruit because someone is going to be looking for chocolate. So, I really want to make sure I have a different combination of cookies, so an all chocolate cookie, more of a shortbread cookie, a combination of flavors like peanut butter and chocolate, some of them are soft, some of them are crunchy and certainly I’ve hit somebody’s taste buds or many people’s taste buds with that variety. It’s also nice too to sort of have one centerpiece dessert, the real fancy one. A beautiful cake is a wonderful way for people to come along and take a slice, let them decide how small or big they’re going to cut that slice, but it really looks beautiful on your display. And in this case, this coconut layer cake is a completely different texture and flavor than the cookie variety that we’ve put out. When you do a buffet like this, I also love that you can pull out some of those fancy dishes that are usually put away for most of the year. So, pull out those cake plates and layer them together to give a more visual presentation. Those platters that you’ve been collecting from flea markets or that have been gifts or wedding gifts from years ago, a buffet like this is a perfect way to display them. It’s also a great way for you to pull out some of those cookie jars that you’ve had from the past and allow kids to reach in and grab their favorite flavor. And remember too that at the end of the buffet, to have an area where you have some coffee cups so that your guests can help themselves to a cup of hot coffee or tea. That’s where your Keurig is really going to come in handy. You can offer them different varieties in coffees and teas just like you gave them a wonderful variety in your beautiful dessert buffet.
