Beef and onions are pretty much a classic pair. Here’s how to make it in two ways: Japanese Gyudon and Filipino Beef Steak!

Filipino Beef Steak (Bistek) – 4:45
Gyudon
• 1 white onion, sliced thinly
• 3/4 cup Dashi (i used concentrate diluted with water)
• 1/4 cup cooking Sake
• 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
• 1 tablespoon white sugar
• 250g shaved Rib Eye
• 1/2 tsp grated ginger
• Salt to taste
• Optional: White Rice, Furikake, Togerashi, Soft Boiled Egg, Chopped Scallions
Bistek
450 g quality beef (skirt, flank or striploin)
1/4 cup dark soy sauce
1/4 cup light soy sauce
1/6 cup lime juice
1/6 cup lemon juicer
peanut oil to fry
1 big white onion
2 medium red onions
2 brown onion
1/2 to 1 cup water
salt and pepper
1 tsp sugar
8 garlic cloves minced
1 tsp baking soda (for velvetting)
