2020 is all about minimalism. The economy is awful and even if you still have a job, you most likely have taken a pay cut. Combine that with the ever growing mental health problems, and it’s important to start your day right!
I have been drinking variations of this smoothie recipe for the last 5 years. It’s cheap, healthy, and gives you a nice boost to start your day. Here’s the basic recipe that I’ve been drinking this year:
Cold Brew Coffee Smoothie
6 ounces of cold brew coffee
1/3 banana
1 TBSP almond butter
1 scoop of chocolate whey protein powder
Top it off with ½ cup of frozen blueberries
Blend and Enjoy!
The cost breakdown:
Cold Brew Coffee $3.99. 8 servings per bottle. 6 ounces each. $0.50 per serving
Almond Butter $8.00. 20 servings per container. $0.40 per serving
Blueberries $7.79. 20 servings per bag. $0.39 per serving
Banana. $0.75 per pound. 1 banana weighs ¾ lb. 1/3 of a banana $0.19
1 scoop of whey protein $24 per 40 serving bag. $0.60 per serving
TOTAL COST = approximately $2!
I’d suggest buying the ingredients in bulk from Costco! All of the ingredients have a long shelf life and you can peel and freeze the bananas.
If your blender is big enough, you can add a handful of spinach for some greens without it changing the taste.
This smoothie can also be made for a price closer to $1 if you make your own cold brew coffee, use peanut butter instead of almond butter, non-organic ingredients, and search for the best prices on ingredients.
