Chicken Perattu or Chicken Peralan is a delicacy from Kerala cuisine. This dry chicken curry preparation involves slow-cooking chicken pieces in a dry red chilli paste base. In this recipe, boneless chicken pieces are cooked in a fiery blend of chilli powder, coriander powder, and a freshly-ground red chilli paste. The chicken perattu will go well with rice and curry, or with any of the Indian bread – roti, chapati, etc. Try out this fiery chicken recipe & let us know how you like it.
Preparation of Marinade
300 gms Chicken (boneless)
1 tsp Coriander Seed Powder
1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
1 tsp Turmeric Powder
For the Base
2-3 tbsp Coconut Oil
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
1 tbsp Garlic (chopped)
2-3 tbsp Red Chilli Paste
8-10 Mint Leaves
8-10 Curry Leaves
1 tsp Dried Fenugreek Leaves
Salt (as required)
1/2 cup Water
Preparing the Gravy
2 tbsp Coconut Oil
1 tsp Coriander Seeds Powder
1 tbsp Red Chilli Powder
1 tbsp Garam Masala Powder
2 tbsp Coriander Roots (chopped)
1 tbsp Coriander Leaves (chopped)
Coriander Leaves (for garnish)
